Monash@Alfred saving trees and money with MACE project

Did you know that Australians use more than 3.5 million tonnes of paper each year? That’s about 40,000 trees!! (For estimation see link). Monash@Alfred is tackling this problem head on with our new printing policy (available at https://sites.google.com/a/monash.edu/monash-alfred-cost-efficiency-project/home).  Enquiries: mace-alfred@monash.edu.

Phase 1 of the new policy will go live in January 2014 and will involve “point of print release” software on all Alfred Precinct multi-function devices (MFD’s). This will help us to reduce paper wastage and thereby decrease our environmental impact.

The new software is simple to use.  When printing to an MFD set a passcode of your own choosing from your computer then proceed to the MFD, select your job from a list on screen in order for it to be ‘released’( printed) and enter the passcode you set. Jobs will be listed by existing Monash username.

This enables you to print confidential jobs to the MFD’s without danger of someone else retrieving your information.

Instructions will be available at all MFD’s and information will be communicated in the lead up to the January implementation.

If you have any questions regarding these changes please email mace-alfred@monash.edu.

The Monash @ Alfred Cost Efficiency project has been established under the executive sponsorship of the CCS and SPHPM Heads of School, and the Precinct Manager. The objective of the project is to identify opportunities for improving resource efficiencies at the Monash University Alfred site.
