The inaugural Monash translational research symposium hosted by Central Clinical School was very successful, with outstanding clinician-researchers telling the stories of how basic science is necessary to inform the development of successful therapeutic and clinical interventions. 2016's symposium will be hosted by the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health.

Monash University ranked 35 in the world in clinical medicine

Clinical medicine at Monash University has continued its rise in the international rankings, according to results released this month by Times Higher Education. Ranked an impressive 35 in the world in clinical, preclinical medicine and health, Monash has jumped from 46 last year, while the University overall rose to achieve a ranking of 73, out of 800 institutions in the 2015-16 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Alfred medical student wins Victorian Young Australian of the Year 2016

Congratulations to medical student Robbie Gillies for winning the 2016 Victorian Young Australian of the Year 2016 Award! Robbie was nominated as a finalist for the Victorian Young Australian of the Year 2016 on 8 October. The state winners were announced on 28 October 2015. See his acceptance speech.

Robbie was one of CCS's 3rd year Alfred medical students and also the New Mentorship program coordinator. He will be speaking to the 2016 3rd year medical students on 9 February 2016.

Participants sought: Cognitive Enhancement in Depression using Non-invasive Brain Stimulation

The Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc) is conducting this study to investigate the effectiveness of non-invasive electrical brain stimulation methods to increase cognitive ability in individuals with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). The study also aims to better understand the relationship between depression, stimulation, cognitive enhancement, and brain activity.
